The National Youth Science Forum-NYSF

About the NYSF program

The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) is a not-for-profit organisation that runs a number of residential programs to encourage young people in their passion for science. NYSF programs show the wide variety of engaging, rewarding and inspiring study and career options available in science, technology and engineering fields.

The NYSF flagship program is the NYSF Year 12 Program, which is a 12 day residential program run in January each year now at The Australian National University , Canberra and the University of Queensland,Brisbane for students about to enter year 12

Applications for the  National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) are open from 1 March to 31 May each year.

Are you considering a career in science, engineering or those careers associated with STEM subjects?
Then this is an opportunity you should not miss !

NYSF is a unique opportunity for those Year 11 students who intend to pursue a career in Science, Engineering  and related disciplines, to attend  the  Australian National University in  Canberra or the University of Queensland in January each year as a university student. During that  time, selected students will live on Campus together with other like minded students in separate sessions of  12 days duration.

Rotary is the Founding Partner of NYSF and today the 21 local Rotary districts across Australia continue to conduct selections for the NYSF Year 12 Program on behalf of the NYSF. Every year Rotarians continue to support the Year 12 Program through promoting the opportunity in local communities, managing applications and selections of students, and assisting with funding or fund-raising for student fees to attend the Year 12 Program. Rotarians also volunteer during the Year 12 Program in January. We estimate that Rotarians nationwide contribute more than 20,000 volunteer hours to the NYSF every year.

Each year the Rotary Club of Engadine provides a sponsorship opportunity for a year 11 student attending our local High Schools. In addition  Equity Scholarships are  available to cover $1,000 of the fee. Applicants are encourage to view the eligibility requirements and apply. You must submit your Equity Scholarship application at the same time as your Year 12 Program application. There may be further opportunities to cover part or all of the cost through community fundraising or sponsorship, or contributions from your endorsing Rotary Club. Applicants are encouraged to explore all of these options.

About the 2020 Program

In 2020, there will be three separate sessions running for the NYSF Year 12 Program with the following locations and dates. Each session has places for up to 200 students. Successfully selected students are not necessarily allocated a session in their home state.

Session A: Wednesday 1 to Sunday 12 January – CANBERRA
Session B: Wednesday 8 to Sunday 19 January –  BRISBANE
Session C: Wednesday 15 to Sunday 26 January – CANBERRA

Applicants should be aware that as NYSF is very competitive they will be required to go through a selection process at the District level

Contact our Youth Services Chairman by email petersheehy10@gmail.com for further information regarding sponsorship .

During your stay you will meet a range of scientists and researchers, visit them at work and do the kinds of things they do every day.
You will debate the hottest topics in science and engineering and gather valuable skills that will give you that edge through Year 12 and beyond.
But it's not all work - there's also time for fun and to get to know your fellow attendees making often lifetime friendship.
